25th November 1974.

He left us the legacy of his beautiful, haunting music.

Having listened to the tribute program on Radio 2, fronted by Brad Pitt, I can only say what a great talent sadly lost.

Hearing the last songs that Joe Boyd found with the sound of the guitar being put down at the end was almost to much to hear.

Like many who died too soon his reputation has grown immeasurably since his death, especially in the past 10 years or so.

It may be some consolation that at least many more people are now enjoying his beautiful music.

Which Nick album is the most "spare", or unadorned w. extra instrumentation (i.e. strings, background vocals etc.)?

Bhazen;

The last one - 'Pink Moon'. It's also the best recording.

Thanks John - I'm off to the CD bazaar!

I've really fallen in love with Nick's music, thanks to the Way to Blue compilation. Timeless stuff.

I heard a person on Radio National here in Australia speaking about Nick Drake and praising his music. So I ordered his album, Pink Moon. Not available off the racks. Played it and .. no , it was not for me. A couple of years later pulled it out; what a difference, without expectations this time the music sounded amazingly different. I don't play it much, but I leave it close and handy.
