Dave

You would be better off with a Grahams Hydra.

It sounds better, looks neater and is considerably cheaper.

Mick

Mick

The obvious question - how do I get hold of an Hydra?

Mike there is probably a clue hidden deep in Mick's reply...

I've asked Graham, he has no clue and was in fact rather rude...

( Actually I Googled "Grahams Hydra" to no avail. )

See you saturday

Mike

Seagull is being sarcastic which is a trait that is alien to such as we.

Give Grahams a ring, they will post one immeadiately.

From memory, a six ended one costs £90 plus postage.

They can also make configurations to order.

Regards

Mick.....non sarcastic, ever helpful blah blah blah

Judgement should be reserved until the new block has actually been heard. In other words, certain mouths should be kept closed until it can be established whether or not there is a significant improvement over the old one.

I'm just about to call AW...

Steve.

Me? Sarcastic? Never!

Just looked at the Grahams site and found out why Mike couldn't find a reference to the multi-headed beast - their called Hyrdas (sic)

Just Googled "Grahams electrical" and up it popped, instantly blocked by the net nanny as it involves leisure.

How long are the leads, BTW? My boxes are not immediately adjacent to the sockets.

Thanks for your help MICK

You could always make your own Hydra using a Maplin Multi-plug at around £7.99 - does the same job as the Grahams one at a fraction of the price.

Mr Toy

The musicwork blocks are mediocre. Anyone who say differently is kidding themselves.

Nearly everyone who has compared them to the Grahams hydra, favours the Hydra.

Just had a nice chat to Ed.

They will upgrade my existing one for £100.

New copper braiding, thicker cables, non-magnetic stainless steel screws, amongst other things.

Regards,

Steve.

Mike,

Perhaps we ought to have a shoot out round mine some time...

Contenders being...

  • multiple spurs
  • single spur with MW block
  • single spur with Graham's hyrda*
  • single spur with home-made hyrda based on maplins plug
  • single spur with B&Q £4.99 special 4-way
  • ring main with MW block
  • ring main with Graham's hyrda
  • ring main with home-made hyrda based on maplins plug
  • ring main with B&Q £4.99 special 4-way

alternatively we could just listen to some music...

*hyrda is the new sistem

Could you get her autograph for me?? Big Grin

......... and Early Floyd's too please Big Grin

Oh! and no shoot-out would be truly complete (or even remotely useful!) without a comparison of MK and Crabtree unswitched (and possibly switched) sockets. Might as well throw in some Wickes ones too as a control!

Thanks for the replies, although I'm not sure Kate would like being plugged into any of the options listed Smile

Now I am wondering whether to go for a Hydra(s)!
These things are impossible to demo so have to base it on what you read in this forum a lot...

thanks
Dave.

You can demo the Music Works.

In fact, I shall more than likely be doing just that in a couple of weeks or so.

Steve.

Well, I've got 6 spurs, all with switchless MK sockets. so I suppose we could get a registered electrician in to replace five of them with...

  • switched MK
  • switchless crabtree
  • switched crabtree
  • switchless Wickes
  • switched Wickes

and verify the connections and issue the required safety certificate.

Then we repeat the single spur tests for each for the different sockets.

We could do the same for the ring main sockets in the room as well.

I think even Mr £acey would tire of the 30th anniversary pressing of DSotM on the fortieth play in a row...
