I keep getting odd messages like this...
"We need to talk, ASAP. Call me."
By email from people I have never heard of. No phone number given, of course. Clearly some kind of spam, but whats going on?
Regards
Mike

This sounds typical of the sort of message generated by viruses - it's best to delete these emails as soon as they arrive. Avoid opening any attachments that come with these emails, otherwise you could infect your PC.
If you're using antivirus software then it may need updating.
Finally, if one of these emails ever appears to be from someone you know, the chances are that the infection isn't on their PC. More likely their e-mail address is being "spoofed" by a virus on another PC.

Mike,
Perhaps it's your other half! Perhaps she's joined 'Hifi-Spouses Anonymous' and after some much-needed group therapy sessions, she's trying to communicate to you that maybe your system's not so bad after all....the spoof email addresses are obviously being used 'cos she can't quite bring herself to admit that it's actually her (pride runs deep in the Lacey household, methinks) !

The email could also be generated from a harvester; if the message doesn't bounce, or for reasons passing understanding you actually try to respond, the sending application knows it has a 'live one', which can be stored and sold as part of a huge list of emails to spammers.

I recently had a spate of these, all from the same email address, with an attachment of some sort.
After the first two or three, I just set up my email filter to delete them based on the sender's email address, they seem to have stopped now.
