Going out of the front door this morning my wife suggested I spend a moment or two with our rabbit who was a bit under the weather.I replied that I was late so I'd see him later.I got home tonight and my daughter told me that the rabbit had died.Feel a bit of a shit.....

What a terrible position to be in. I doubt you would have saved the rabbit but your daughter might not understand it.
Ask her how she feels about this and tell her how much you wished you had stayed this morning. You can never bring the rabbit back but maybe another might heal the pain a little........
As a parent, I share your pain. I can imagine how you feel.........

Velo;
Very sorry for your families' loss; anyone who has rabbits is alright with me. I love 'em.

Rabbits are great animals, and we have two. It's difficult for people who don't have pets to understand how we get very attached to our pets but in a way they are like little people and the biggest sadness is that they often don't live that long.
We had a rabbit die last year and my wife was truly in what I can only describe as a mild state of grieving. It sounds daft thinking back, but Evie (the rabbit) had bags of personality and we still miss having her around.
I know this is going to sound daft, and if that's how it sounds, then colour me crazy, but we found that burying our rabbit in the garden and placing a nice stone was a nice way of saying goodbye to a member of the family.
These things happen, and as LTD said, there wa probably nothing that could have been done. How old was the rabbit?
Remember that, on average, rabbits only make it to 4 years old. Evie died at just 2.5 years, her sister (same litter) Ella is still around at 4 years, and Otis (a new playmate for Ella) is not quite 18 months. It's sad that they don't live longer.

Well at least you've got something original to contribute to the 'Christmas Dinner' thread now.
