The Best of Willie Nelson ?

Posted by: Peter Stockwell on 12 May 2004

Ok, So I have three CDs: Spirit, Teatro & Milk Cow Blues. I also have the early 80s 'Greatest Hits and some that will be' collection, Stardust, Willie Nelson sings Kris Kristofferson, & Poncho & Lefty (with Merle Haggard).

I settled dow to listen to 'Milk Cow Blues' last night, which is a sumptous recording albeit with some over modulation of Willie's voce (sounds like misstracking!). However I was struck by how annoying the guest singers are on this disc.

Can anyone reccomend a Willie recording that's done well, good tunes, and no guest appearances ?

Thanks

Peter

This is an easy one, you need to buy 'Red Headed Stranger'. To the best of my knowledge you can get this as 'two for' with 'To Lefty from Willie', Amazon sells this for less than a tenner. Red Headed Stranger is his best album and an all time classic! It is a concept album which has a series of songs that interweave. One of the tracks, 'Blue eyes crying in the rain', is a cover which is so beautiful it will make you weep. I think there was a post on this albumn a little while ago so it might be worth having a search.

Thanks Woodface.

I'll put that one at the top of the list.
