Mad Prog Rock Fall Out

Posted by: garyi on 06 August 2004

No doubt a serious back lash to listening primarily to Phat beats for the past two years, serious 'prog rock has arrived and bit me on the arse.

See another thread with regards to porcupine tree.

However another more significant discovery has been the Groundhogs, 'the bomb' album actually purchased for my step dad, I actually really like this group, what else is there to know?

Garyi;
As you seem to have it bad and there is no hope for you, check out Robin Trower's 'Bridge Of Sighs'.

The Hendrix influence is apparent, but a glorious guitar sound all the same. Generally regarded as THE Trower album and not a duff track. 1974 from memory?

Spent a very plesant hour this afternoon rediscovering Relayer. It never sounded this good before - I think I'm regressing. Moon Madness tomorrow I think....

Just spent a fascist* 45 minutes listening to Brain Salad Surgery, Emerson Lake & Palmer...much more atmospheric than I remember from pre-Naim days (and more dynamic, too; I turned up the wick during the intro to "Toccata" and got blown outta my chair when the band came in), and madder than a hatter in places. Yes, pompous. Lyrics? Dodgy in extremis. But pure adrenaline fun, like driving a turbo Porsche at speed down the freeway in the rain...

Check out True Stories by David Sancious & Tone; amazing stuff, sort of like ELP, but with Stevie Wonder soul & feeling.

*See thread "My Motley Kit".
