Johnny Cash - Unearthed

Posted by: sjust on 17 October 2004

I was astonished that

1. the search function was working
2. nobody had ever posted about this 5 CD box

Pretty much lofi product in terms of overall recording quality. Beware, audophiles ! But...

What a testimony of a music making person ! I have absolutely NO clue about the positical, historical, etc. merits of Johnny Cash, and don't care for that reason. And, people that know me, will know me as a Jazz nut (sounds a bit like "chestnut", but anyway...), so "Country" is almost new land for me. But... These recordings touch me to my heart (can't say differently). I wish Fredrik Fiske was still "on board", he would understand that records can be involving even if there hasn't been leading edge technology used to record them.

Anybody else had that sensation with these songs ?

Scary...

Best regards, freundliche Grüße

I thought this had been discussed before, certainly I can recall something about the track 'hurt'.
Yes, this is a great box set covering his last 10 years. Somehow the frailty of his later years comes through in the music, very emotional. I must admit that his earlier stuff leaves me cold but his 'american recordings' to my mind are on a different level and really communicate musically.

Stefan, oddly I must disagree with you about the recording quality - whilst most are fairly simple arrangements I do not find them lofi.

John,
agreed on the recording quality. It's just not artificially "blown up" to a pseudo audiophile standard. But, you're right: it's up to the standards... The voice could have been captured with a little more body and contour, for my taste, though.

To my ears the recording Quality is nothing than "great".similar to american 3,but i admit
i have not heared all titles.(five hours of that music are to much for me as a not country
music lover.)think in his last years Cashs music went more and more away from the "hardcore country Music" of the past.
(I like only the last three records and the unearthed box,but this is realy involving music to my ears.)
