Leeds

It seems I might be working in Leeds for the next 8 weeks or so - joy!

Although I've worked there before it was for the odd week/few days here and there. And I was much younger and pretty much satisfied with a beer and a curry.

Now I'm older and plan to use the evenings to improve my fitness. So I might take my mountain bike with me. Where are good places to ride (I think the office is in Morley or Harehills). Also can anyone recommend a good gym (with monthly membership) close to these locations??

This site has details of some rides around Leeds. Although Morley is a few miles to the south. Most of the rides on this site are north of the City.

There are a number of Gyms in the city centre. Virgin and LA Fitness come to mind. Do you know where you will be staying?

Leeds it is then, for 8 weeks - the glam life of the IT contractor!

Don't know where I'll be staying yet - trying to find a short term corporate let.

Thanks for the web site - plan to ride em all! Where's a good bike shop (in the City)?

No bike shops in the City. Stif is in Headingley. About 5 miles out of the centre.

In Birstall, which is about a 5 minute drive from Morley, is a "JJB" gym which Ive heard good things about - good pool; adequate free parking etc. Probably worth checking out. Also, Morley Leisure Centre in the centre of Morley has being refurbished in last 2 years (gym has running machines) and as a council run centre has pay-as-you-go options.

The ones in the city centre (about 5 miles from Morley)tend not to have any free parking (unless you are going before 8 am or after 6pm). The parking near Virgin and LA can be £4 for 2 hrs max in daytime. However, people from my office use Virgin and like it but they are going during the day or straight after work so parking isnt an issue.

I hope this helps.
