Chipmunks

I'm going off Guinea Pigs.
I checked out Pets'R'Us and they had chipmunks - these things are a riot, jumping all over the place, spinning on wheels, doing high-wire acts. The only downside being they seem to need a hutch the size of my house.
Meanwhile, three little piggies looked a bit forlorn cooped up with a herd of rabbits. I thought they weren't supposed to be housed together. I asked the guy if they had any tortoiseshell piggies and he said 'no, never seen one; do they exist?'
So, John C, perhaps you'd PM me the mad piggy woman of Hertford's details. . .

I used to keep chipmunks years ago.
Great fun but need a large cage and not a pet you could cuddle, totally mad when they're running round the living room but difficult to get back in thier cage unless they want to go back.

Alex, what you need is a groundhog, it could make your day!

Markus, not sure I need another one, just visit the Hi-Fi Corner.

Chipmunks are not really very tame as Stuart says. Groundhogs worse, we have a very un-entertaining example, called Phil, living in our back yard.
What are you looking for in a pet Alex?
Of all the animals we had as kids I think the ferrets were my faves. full on when awake but sleep most of the time, fun to take for 'walkies' and quite useful if you have any trouble with bunnies in your area.
Cheers

Andy, I'm looking for docile, yet lively; low maintainance yet fun; strokeable, leaveable for short periods, happy-ish to live outside but venture in; something that makes a noise without being noisy; not too smelly. So far, it all adds up to guinea pigs. Apparently ferrets are great fun but rip the house to shreds. . .

That's it! Dutch or Peruvian?

Well if Peruvian don't get a guinea pig

Does sound like a cat to me, we have them and as I said I got over my alergy to them by living with them btu i am probably lucky. Mrs. Andy recently visited some 'Rellies' down under and their daughter was allergic to cats so they bought her one of the '
Hairless' variety, by all accounts a huge hit and no sneezing.
Otherwise birds make good pets, if you have some space outdoors a Barn Owl makes a great pet and can be bought quite easily as long as it is captive bread. They like people and are very affectionate, probably better at keeping mice away than any cat we ever had....
Just a thought and good luck...
BTW a friend has a nanny from Panama, worth considering IMHO
