Sub Hook-up

Am I correct that I could run a second full signal output from my Hi-Cap to a Sub line-level input? This would allow me to enjoy my sub without running my main signal through the sub's crossover. The subs crossover will then be set to only play below 50 htz or so.

If this is possible, has anyone done this? Since I still need the sub for HT duty, I was thinking of using a mono cable. (One sub input for Naim, one for HT processor.)

I did this and it worked fine.

I bought a twin RCA stereo to single RCA mono cable and attached it to a Naim DIN to stereo RCA out lead plugged in to the spare stereo amp output on a HiCap.

This was to drive a sub which only accepted a mono line level input.

Subsequently I changed to an REL sub which accepts speaker level inputs as well as an LFE level input, and can be wired across the speaker terminals on the power amp. This works better for me.

The only issue you might have is that when you are using your system for home cinema sound you may not want the sub's crossover to be active if the AV amp is taking care of the bass management or at the very least you might want to use a different crossover setting (to handle the bass from the centre/rear channels).

If your sub has a switch to bypass it's crossover then all you would need to do would be to bypass it when playing movies.
