That's all right Elvis

Elvis'debut single is to receive its first release in the UK to mark the 50th anniversary of its recording.
That's All Right Mama was never officially released as a single in the UK. It will be released as a CD single and on 10-inch vinyl. Only 5,000 copies will be pressed. The vinyl release will be available only in HMV stores and will cost £3.99.
Monday is the 50th anniversary of the That's All Right Mama's recording in 1954.
It will have its original b-side, Blue Moon of Kentucky.

Sorry never really "got" the king

Neither did I as a young'un. I was into The Beatles/Stones/Who/Kinks/Beach Boys as a boy and regarded Elv as a maudlin old fart and his fans as old saddos. Now I'm an old saddo myself I can appreciate him, and Lennon's statement that "before Elvis there was nothing". Not exactly true of course (Blues, R&B, Jazz etc) but you get the point. For the generation that are around 60 now Elvis had the same effect on them that the Beatles/Stones, and later the Sex Pistols had on me. But he was the first.

Thanks Jez. I have ordered the single & the CD today. I wouldn't have known about this, so I owe you a beer.

Rasher,
Since you live "just around the corner actually", could you pop round with the beer right now? I prefer 'Black Sheep' but since there is already some of that in the fridge, and I never look a gift horse in the mouth, whatever you have to hand will be fine. (except that filthy Bud swill)

You had to spoil that with possibly the most ugly speaker ever produced.

Garyi,
Beauty of the briks is in the ear of the beholder!
Actually the pic is not of my briks which are a rather more tasteful walnut version with the grills on and mounted on Mr. Watson's finest stands.
These are rather more ugly I think:-

"Beauty of the briks is in the ear of the beerholder!" I think you mean.
I had a couple of Abbot Ales and a bottle of Wells Banana Bread Beer - which tasted awful. Couldn't find your house though Jez. Where did you say you lived?
I wish I had ordered more than one copy of the 10" vinyl now - looks like it might become valuable.

So do you really listen much to Elvis or, like me, like the idea of the icon more and just appreciate how important he was?

The 10" was released on the 5th July (yesterday) and I got mine in the post. I looked on the HMV site in the afternoon and they were all gone.
I expect they will be on ebay today at £25+. Mine is going on the wall.
