Collating CD's and LP's

Posted by: oldie on 27 April 2004

Hi all,
Having read on a different thread your recommendations regarding a collating program for CD's and LP's namely [excuse the pun] Music Collectorit seemed just what I was also looking for, so now I have spent many days working with the prod and stab school of typing and have managed with the help of the scanning wizard to enter all of my Cd's .Now the mammoth task of entering the LP's is about to start one finger typing being the order of the day, or to be correct probably many days to come. Can any of you well versed computer whizzes orusers of the program Music Collector, advise a incompetent and computer illiterate old sod if there is a easy way to do this, also can the cd's and LP's be kept on separate lists,if so how do you go about it? I have already found a new list heading , and unfortunatly when I opened it I lost about 5 days worth of listing CD's witch caused a bit of a fright. thank goodness I had just transfered all of this information onto a CD for safe keeping.
thanks in advance, a confused :- oldie.

I don't wish to hijack the thread, I am sure that Oldie would benefit from an answer to this question as well...

Is there any quick way to enter or look up details of LP's?

I tried an evaluation copy of Music Collector a while ago, it seemed very good, quick and easy for CD's but my LPs don't fit in the CDROM drive on my PC.

Tom
Thanks for the offer, and information on how to do,but it's still going to be a long one fingered exercise Is there anyway that Cd's and LP's can be kept on seperate lists or do they all just have to go in together.
It's not a life or death situation but far to long working for Rolls Royce years ago have left, amoungst other things a "Tidy" Engineering requirement deeply embedded within

Tom's post is correct, and I'll expand on it a bit. You press the Insert key to add new items (or press the first button on the toolbar). The upcoming screen has three tabs across the top:

  • Search by Scanning CDs
  • Search by Barcode
  • Search by Artist and Title

Go to the third tab, enter the artist and title, and then press the "Add to Queue" button. This adds it to the list below. Once you've done as many as you want (I usually do mine in batches of 10-20), then you hit the "Search" button. It will proceed to find the information, much like it does when you get the original information from a CD in the CD-ROM drive.

Thanks Mike,

They must have added that feature since I last looked at it (or maybe it was just missing from the evaluation copy, I can't remember the version I tried.)

That was the only reason I didn't buy it last time I tried it.

Tom...

All upgrades free? Sounds good, pity other companies aren't so generous...

I think I'll try it now especially now the pc and hi-fi are in the same room Eek so I can listen while I catalogue.

Tom,
I have just gone through your very comprehensive list[ and I thought I had a few disc's and cd's] but unfortunatly there are only a couple that match but thanks again for the offer,by the way you must have needed a removal van just for your collection Wink
