Ivor's daughter

Posted by: Tim Jones on 24 January 2001

Took a call at work today from a BBC researcher. Her name was Sara and she wanted me to email her something. Her last name was Tiefenbrun - so I had to ask.

She's his daughter. And yes, the speakers were named after her.

Probably a myth but I heard a secord part to the story. SARA stands for Small Acoustic Reproduction Apparatus. Like Sara the daughter, the speaker is small and makes a lot of sound.

Joe--

That is not a myth--if you dig out your old Linn Magazine Ivor actually calls them that.

Cheers,

Bob

If my memory serves me correctly, Ivor named the Sara loudspeakers after his daughter as, in his words, 'they were small but made a lot of noise'.

Likewise the Kan was named as he wanted to prove 'you Kan get a large sound from a small 'speaker'.

These things are written in the annals of Hi-Fi history somewhere, I've just got this strange memory that stores all of this useless junk!

Andy.

Tim

Did she shout at you in a slightly incoherent and yet engaging way?

I'd hate to meet whoever the KOMRI was named after.

On the other hand, I'd quite like to meet whoever KLIMAX was named after

I'm surprised Ivor didn't call his daughter Karen, Kate, Katherine, Karly or Krystal.

Chris,

In Kentucky? This is a state where they deep fry a turkey whole for Thanksgiving. I trust this explains the situation.

Jean-Christophe -

It was a 624 code so she was at TV Centre in White City.

I was especially polite and helpful (rare when dealing with TV researchers).

Also asked her to say hi and thanks to her Dad. Which was slightly pathetic. Ho-hum.
