Ok Guys and Gals.
Is this car worth buying ?
It's within my budget and seems like what I fancy. Currently driving a 2003 VW Golf GTi 150 Diesel.
Positives / Negatives / Alternatives........

Bloody hell mate, how right you are. It's tragic how one get's locked into thinking that the Germans are always at the forefront of auto engineering. Blinkered thinking on my behalf. Those are fantastic figures and if you've been involved in any way then by you should be proud as hell and you must blow your trumpet. I fail to see a downside of this kind of engine and think they should whack it in their Laguna and Vel Satis asap.
Having seen some rolling road figures from BMW and VAG cars, I think I know what you're saying about the figures.
Sorry 911 for 911 tangential 911 waffling 911 on 911 your 911 thread 911 LTD. 911 911 911 911.
And sorry for subliminally flashing you.

For me the option of a 911 (albeit used) is one of my life long ambitions. Until I considered a 330, I never realised that it could be viable.......
I didn't marry Daisy Duke and I don't live in a castle in the air but I might manage one of the other things a kid only dreamt of.....
a 911.
But is one out of three regarded as failure these days ???????
I fi wwere in you r situation i would immediatly go for the 911.
the rational argument:everybody shall get what he likes to get lucky.
Senseless to think about something other.
and if you do not like the porsche anymore you can buy another dreamcar. At the moment it is wasted time to think about other cars because of
O n ce in your life you will go for a 911.So why not now?

People will hate you whichever you choose, but they will hate you more in a Porsche than a BMW.
I don't personally understand this envy=hatred thing at all, but perhaps if I lived in a room&kitchen in a tennement I would.
I hope you've got a garage.

Long-time dead,
You only live once so go for what you want now. Don't even think about what others might think. Thats their own insecurity and frankly their problem.
If you really want that 911 and can aford it buy one and enjoy it.
Regards

Well, time has passed since the weekend and I will now report my thoughts......
As luck would have it, I got the opportunity to drive both the 911 and 330 (petrol) at the weekend. I say luck, but have no doubt that it was down the the "911 thang". I drove onto the forecourt of the BMW dealership in the Porsche and the salesman was over me like a fly around sh* you know what....
Now to the cars. The 911 was a 2000 3.2 2wd at £35k with 50k miles. FSH etc.
First impression was that it felt like a new car. Everything was tight to feel, neat and tidy. A car that seems to have been looked after. Then I drove it - WOW ! Everything that I thought was good about my Golf disappeared in an instant. This was motoring at a totally different level. Power on demand, incredible grip and build quality that made my VW look poor.
Then the 330 - this is an amazing car too. I thought that I would have been disappointed but no. It is a different drive to the Porsche but I think this may be due to the engine position and chassis length. It was more forgiving of the road surface than the Porsche and a bit more spacious inside.
Both cars offered an awesome level of performance.
I thought that the difference would be more dramatic and it would be a simple Yes/No question to answer but I am not much clearer as to exactly which car I want.
When I factor in the fact that a new (or very nearly new) 330 is very tempting and that a 4yo Porsche may require expensive surgery (clutch/exhaust) at an earlier stage than the BMW my mind has yet to crunch the numbers.
On Sunday I had the back seats down on the Golf helping a friend move a new TV set. As you can imagine, I had a laugh to myself wondering if he would have had to hire a van if I had either the BMW or Porsche.
I will ponder some more - head says BMW due to the "newness" and space, heart says 911 due to "the 911 thang".
Decisions, decisions........

The new 3-series will roll-out across europe next summer, with Tourings and Coupes usually 6-12months later. Info/pictures/video should be on the manufacturer's web site today.
Discuss it with your pusher.
regards,
Brian

He hates me - I told him the Porsche was under "dem"........ the "look" said it all.
I am now very much intriuged by the new 3 series and also the new diesel engine. What makes it SO special over the current engine ?
Still confused........ could keep my Golf and have a serious 'f*ck off' system.......

Hey! you want a 911!
forget that arguments for golfs or bmws.
get the porsche! if you will not like this car you will loose 3 thousand euros by reselling it ( if your buing price was ok)durinr two months.
B u t I f you do not go n o w for the porsche you will t hi n k about that the coming days monts and years, afterwards you will loose also
one or two thousands euros reselling the bmw
ar the golf and the you will go for the 911 or
in worst case you will die without having tried a 911.I would t r y and i would do that n
o o o o w. Except you have a better idea than cars to waste yourmoney.I would suggest:Girls,
roulette,poker,yachts,hifi.
Imo all good ideas but (maybe) you are a car freak.

Don't look around the eyes, look into the eyes, you ARE GOING TO GET A 911. When you wake up you will be trying to control the tail on YOUR 911.
Accepting that, for the 3, they've just announced the 320d with the 163bhp as in the dungcam. I think it's just a remapped and tweaked version of the current engine. If there's to be a 335d then I'm sure it'll be stunning, though you'll need to be well strapped in if you're not going to splattered across the back window. I think it's going to be biggish bucks. IMO the new 3 doesn't look all that, the fleet market is going to swamp the market, again, and many are holding their breath to see if BMW pullout of the nosedive that is their increasingly dodgy interiors and ergonomics.
I'm sure the Golf's great but you've driven the 911, you've flown 1st class, you can't go back to coach....you won't.

Thanks Mick
Just what I needed to hear on a wet Friday night !!!!
As for the 320d - 163bhp ain't that much more than the 150bhp my Golf has and I doubt the torque figure will be much higher either.....
Might wait to see when the 335d is due for release before I finalise my decision....... then again......

Nah, get the 911 out of your system, then buy a 335d used if you decide the Porsche's not your automotive Valhalla.
