Tooheys New: is it sold in the UK

Muchachos

Having spent a holiday in Australia, I developed a taste for this brew.

Does anyone know if any of the chain stores or supermarkets sell it?

Regards

Mike

I think it was out here (maybe just plain Tooheys, I can't remember if it was new) about 6 or 7 years ago but I don't think that it is sold here anymore.

When I used to buy it, I purchased it from Threshers, and I agree that it is a good bevvy!

Mike,
I haven't seen Toohey's over here for years, you used to be able to get Fosters that was brewed "in the land of Plenty"[MEN AT WORK]and very good it was to
but it is now done to death by one of the big Chemical Companys up north
The only Good Australian Beer that I know of and is fairly readily available over here is Coopers and I can well recommend it, if I remember correctly it's one of,if not the only bottle conditioned Beer that's brewed in Austrailia
GOOD ON YER MATE!!
oldie.
ps you'll be wanting the other Aussie delicacy "Otpies" next, pass the sauce mate

I'll second that. VB is also available and is pretty good.

err, what???? If you're referring to pies, then they're just pies. Besides which, we tend to pronounce our h's (and t's for that ma'er guv'na).

Hi John,
Your obviously from the more refined Aussie stock[you were probably a frequenter of the rocks Wink]but in all my travels out there the pastry enclosed delicacy was referred to as Otpies, even to the extent of,in Darwin being told ,that as a pom I would probably want my Otpie kept in the "freeza" don't tell me that you have never experanced the delight of pulling the top off and filling the inside with ketchup, Big Grin what a ghastly gastronomic thought.Mind you I wished I was still there Big Grin.
I haven't seen much VB around here and would wish to see that it was brewed down under before I bought it.

well they probably do things differently in Darwin. I can't say that I've ever ripped the top off a pie - I like the sauce on top of the lid.

VB can be bought in supermarkets (if you happen to live in the 'right' area ) and is also available in the dreaded (or is that dreadful?) 'walkabout' pubs - and it is brewed down under. I just did a quick google and it's also available online at serveral places.

yes yes yes but I am after Tooheys New!

I've seen VB in the UK, but to me it tastes like a mix of lager and bitter.

It was the only beer I drank when I was over there, though to be really hard I'd hold a can of superstrengh Strongbow in my hand and pose in front of the Australian SAS HQ down Perth way on occassion, wunnit Bruce.

Graham George It'snastychemicalshitthough

Pish: Fosters wAS BREWED HERE UNDER LICENSE IN DEUTCHLAND UNDER THEIR WORLD BEATING PURITY LAWS, AND IT TASTES FUCKIN GREAT AS WELL AS BEING HALF THE PRICE OF OZ; AND GOD KNOWS WHAT THE UK CHAPS WERE GETTING RIPPED OFF BY ? Though UK would get the original Chemical version too, and I certainly wouldn't order it in OZ, and I don't know mnay who drink the stuff either, like askin for Scotch in Glasgee.

Oldie, tomato sauce not ketchup, and best applied by direct injection with the lid still in place.

Bazz,
As a mere pom, I salute your superior knowledge on both the gastronomic delights and the means of application of sauce into pie's
