Andy, I have her first CD; the second is about to be released (actually, I think you may be talking about the second one because the first one has a title: "Tanto Tiempo").
As to the idea of this music being anything like BVSC -- what a load of cobblers (unless she's radically changed her style). "Tanto Tiempo" is pop music with very strong Brazilian and dance influences. I quite like it.
The producer was a guy named Suba, who sadly died a few years ago. There's an album out by him called "Sao Paolo Confessions", which is a bit more "out there", more dance-oriented, and idiosyncratic.

Bebel Gilberto, whose parents are Joao Gilberto and Miucha Gilberto, and whose uncle is Chico Buarque is equally rooted in Brasilian and American music.
She sings on the latest (and second) album half in English and half in Portugese language. Mainly accoustic instruments were used, and the music swings between those two continents. If you know and like Ana Caram, you'll like this record...
Best regards, freundliche Grüße
Stefan

I think the first album has some great tracks. The weak ones, for me, are those in which she sings in English and clearly does not undestand a word. I'll get the second album, of course.
Good late night tunes.

I have her first album "Tanto Tempo" and enjoyed it. Saw her live in Nice a year ago and it was fun stuff, although it did seem a wee bit weak and shallow. Not really a fair comparison perhaps, but she she was completely outclassed by Beth Gibbons, who played before her.
Will check out Bebel's new album though, thanks for the tip.

Hi,
Just took delivery of this, really rather good. Has the producer who did some of Bjork's stuff and the influences are apparent in some area's IMO.

Hi, andy c,
after reading many good reviews about this second Gilberto album, I've been pretty disappointed by the result. For my taste: Instead of merging the best of both worlds (Brasil and US), she managed to brew some wishy-washy stuff that doesn't hurt anybody, but does not beam you into higher spheres, either.
Nice little piece, not more, not less.
Best regards, freundliche Grüße

If you liked Suba's Sao Paulo confessions, the Tributo album pays hommage to several of the tracks from the former. I thinks it is a great CD.One of the lead singers from both of the Suba discs is a Brazilian called Cibelle. Her own debut album of the same title was produced by Suba.It is a bit hit and miss, but she does have a rather captivating voice. It is like Bebel Gilberto in terms of lightness and superficiality, but entertaining all the same.

Simon, thanks for the tip, might check it out.
Having received the new Gilberto album since this thread was started, I have to agree with Stefan: I don't think it's as good as her first one, a bit too "nice" (and her first one wasn't exactly ground-breaking stuff either).
