Scams!!!

Whilst doing a search (don't ask), I found this PDF that describes several common scams. It seems scams, usually of the e-Bay variety, come up here from time to time and I thought the forumship might enjoy reading about scams and contributing a few.

While I was in Bangkok, I was approached with several classic Thai scams. One happened when I asked a tuk tuk driver for directions to one of the famous temples (wat po). The answer was that the the temple was closed for the day as the monks were meditating...but he would gladly take me to another, grander temple that was open. The tuk tuk driver then gets a kickback from the temple when you are delivered there.
This type of scam strikes me as very clever because the scammed person never knows they were scammed and does get to see a nice temple!
Then there is the scam where you are approached by someone who knows of a jewelry store around the corner that is going out of business and is selling precious gems for 1/2 price. The gems will turn out to be glass!
You can read about more Thai scams here.
When I was in the UK for a month I did not encounter anything that looked like an attempted scam. Then again, maybe they were even more clever than the Thai's! Got any good ones?
