John - why aren't you considering the IF equivalent?

Good question Steve. It's not that I'm not considering IF, but in a nutshell, there's no staff benefit to it (though there is a BoE-BR tracking HBOS product) so it has to be compared to the opposition, of which Virgin One seems to be the one best suited to our circumstances*.

AS it happens I looked at both the IF and Virgin products (both being companies I've had dealings with in the past and Virgin Money are a current customer) but decided to stay with a more traditional structure for now.

Part of the problems (especially with IF) was the poor quality of the websites (at that time at least) and the lack of confidence inspired by the call-centre staff. I ended up moving my mortgage to the Nationwide (who were offering some great deals) and sticking with the RBS for most other things, especially as I liked there buy-to-let mortgage more than others I'd encountered. I like the idea of the "One" type products and offsetting but the implementations didn't really seem up to scratch at the time I was looking (maybe 18 months ago).

BTW are you working in Livingston these days?

IF marketing site has been updated recently, but essentially the rest is the same. I too like the offsetting idea - but granted it won't suit everyone's circumstances.

I'm in Edinburgh Park, overlooking the loch.
