HELP - This forum/my pc

Posted by: MichaelC on 01 July 2004

Not being terribly computer literate could anyone explain why the forum is appearing on a white background whilst the topic/topic starter/replies etc/last post are appearing on a background of various shades of grey. The topic headings are also overlapping. I've obviously screwed something but what? And how do I correct it?

Sorry to be so dumb.

Cheers

I prefer Infopop to vBulletin. Much less wasteful of bandwidth and screen space. The quick reply here is better implemented than the vBulletin/Zerogain version.

And any forum software that allows 'avatars' is obviously not to be taken that seriously.

Avatars can be stitched off in vBulletin. As of course they should.

Paul, you may be happy 'on total balance' (whatever that means) but if you're not aware already, from the punters perspective the naim forum is markedly the slowest, goes off-line completely most frequently, is most bug-ridden and has the worst search facility when compared with your 'competitor' forums.

Oddly I don't have a particular speed problem with the Naim forum, perhaps it's down to routing and ISP?

OTOH it took almost 20 seconds to post that last message.

But only about 2 for this one....

Is anything being done to resolve this?

Dave,

I can refer you back to Paul's post where he has stated that we have various service requests logged with Infopop. I have just seen our stats and the traffic on this forum is exceptionally high so maybe that has become an issue and Infopop need to catch up.... Our apologies to anybody whose enjoyment of the forum is currently either tainted by slow speeds or a buggy interface. Hopefully the situation will improve shortly.

Can you please say something rude, ideally vulgar even, for your 1000th post...

In many cases probably so, but the other place I waste most time in has 4377 registered users and had 117 users on line as of at 21.17 today. It seems to run smoothly enough. I hope Paul & Richard are right and infopop get their act together.

A vBulletin site I use has 115,000+ members and 2000 on line about 21.30, They "waste" bandwidth with avatars(custom ones after 100 posts) and great fun they are too. Speed is always good. They were "hacked" once and lost a lot of archive. Overall I prefer the vbulletin interface to the infopop one. You also get prompts for private messages awaiting viewing.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for pointing that out - I hadn't even noticed I was on the cusp of a millenary post count...
