What was the FIRST concert you went to?

Mine was when my Dad took me to see Lonnie Donegan at Blackpool when I was a young boy. The first one I went to under my own steam (actually a Suzuki 80 Cool) was aged 16 when I rode to York with a split tyre to see Hawkwind and the Pink Fairies.

As a kid I kept being taken to Cabaret so got a lot of all worlds then went to Darwin, N.T. and proposed to a young lady at the Musician's Ball. She accepted so I don't remember too much about the performances.

Following on from the technical details of the Grateful Dead stage rig. It's shame that this philosophy isn't used to-day to bring a better sound to the customers. Where's the profit in that I hear you ask. As usual "sod the punter" still rules the roost.

First rock concert on my own was 1974, Mesker Ampitheatre in Evansville, Indiana (mid-size mid-western city.) The Doobie Brothers with opening act Heart (before their first album.) I'll never forget Nancy Wilson doing an Ian Anderson impersonation, playing flute standing on one leg, right foot tucked into left knee!

My actual first live music concert was a school field trip in about 1969 to see the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. My first exposure to live classical music. I've been a classical fan ever since, and I still remember their final piece, Stars and Stripes Forever by Sousa. Still sends a shiver up my spine every time I hear it played.
