Just fixed my first puncture today. Luckily I was at home when the tyre deflated ('cos that's when I pulled the thorn out).

Anyone know if the self repairing inner tubes are any good? Fixing a rear puncture would be a hassle and quite messy out on the road I'd imagine.

not that much hassle with a bit of practice (or you could just replace the tube like the rest of us lazy folk). However, if you don't want punctures then you should invest in a set of armadillos or similar.

Ah, well, there is stuff called 'Slime' (TM) that you fill your inner tubes with, so as to make them (theoretically) self-sealing. Can't remember who makes it.

But it's a pain. I'd rather fix the occasional puncture (and you get used to/better at it with time) than mess around.

We've got one of those trendy three wheel push-chairs (ideal when you go out jogging with the baby Roll Eyes) and we were getting punctures every two or three outings (cheap tyres I suppose).

Anyway, we used the 'Slime' stuff and it works quite well. It's not too much hassle if you follow the instructions. You can buy it in Halfords.

Mr. B,

I recommend carrying a spare tube, and repairing any blown tube once you return home. This is the low stress way.

I've just fitted the self healing tubes. I'll still carry a spare though just in case.

Those tyres look interesting - thanks Glenda. I'll wait until my current ones wear out though. I don't want this cycling hobby to become an expensive one. (One expensive hobby is enough for me).
