'For a Dancer' - Jackson Browne.
Beautiful way to say goodbye to a loved one, and focus the mind on the real big issues.

-- Big Sleep followed by Somebody Up There Likes You by Simple Minds from their New Gold Dream LP
-- I Believe In You by Talk Talk from their Spirit of Eden LP
Interesting topic to say the least...

More seriously though?
Kennedy's: "The Lark Ascending" Ralph Vaughan Willams.
"Fantasy on a Theme of Thomas Tallis" by the same composer.
Both will bring a tear to your eye.

Mrs S says that I could have anything from my collection as it's all funereal. She says she'll ask them to play traditional hymns to make sure that I'm really dead as she always sings along to Songs of Praise and I always tell her to shut up.
Last year a friend of ours died, he chose Always Look on the Bright Side of Life as the coffin was brought in and Sitting on the Dock of the Bay for his final exit...

Either 'Isifan' (Bill Strayhorn, Duke Ellington Orchestra) or Round Midnight (Thelonious Monk).
'Blood Count' or 'After All' from the Ellington Orchestra would also be fitting.

I decided recently I want New Order's 'Elegia', preferably the full 17-minute version, as it would give the audience plenty of time to reflect on how nice I was.
But then, I'm only 25, this may not be appropriate when I am 75.
I also haven't made a will or told anyone [who will remember]...

Music is expressly forbidden at my funeral! I don't want junk, and then I don't want to spoil other people's future enjoyment of something good by making them associate it with a funeral! I'll HAUNT any bugger who plays music when I'm planted!!

EPIGRAPHS by Ketil Bjornstad (piano) and David Darling (cello) on ECM would be perfect for me now, since my first choice, George Philipp Telemann has beeb dead for sometime. The guy composed funeral music for NINE different mayors of the city of Hamburg, and I would have felt pretty comfortable to comission such an experienced composer. I like a lot his Funeral Music for Garlieb Sillem "Schwanengesang 1733".

I've opted for Dylan's Knockin on Heaven's Door. I know its crass but why should my death be any different to my life?
