Headphone cable upgrade

Posted by: hicapman on 26 April 2004

I listen a lot to my headphones and feel that it may be worthwhile upgrading the cable.I am using Sennheiser HD 600's with a creek obh 11se.I am very happy with the amp and have seen an uprade cable from Russ Andrews but this is far too expensive for me ( approx £280).Does anybody know where i could get a cheaper upgrade?

I can second the Cardas upgrade cable recommendation. I am not normally a cable tweaker, but the improvement over the stock Sennheiser cable is simply amazing. It makes me wonder why Sennheiser bothers to make such a good set of headphones and totally muck up the sound with the cables the cans are shipped with. Also check out the hot products archives section of Wes Phillips' site: onhifi.com for other thoughts on cables for the Sennheiser HD-600s, including both the Stephan AudioArt and Clou Cable offerings. For me, the Cardas was the easiest to find, and I settled on trying them.

Try the Zu Mobius B3 cable. Supposedly better than the Cardas but no UK dealer or distributor that I'm aware of. They will ship direct to the UK though.

For the same money as the R Andrews cable you can now buy the HD650s, which not only have a far better cable, but are a far better headphone!

You could also check out Pro Audio who have HD650s for £229 including VAT and shipping. That's the cheapest I've been able to find although I have no experience of them as a supplier.

Hi all,
thanks for all your help it's greatly appreciated,I intend to keep the HD600's as personally I didn't rate the improvement with the 650's plus I only paid £80 for them!I am trying to find a dealer in the UK for the Cardas who can tell me the price let alone have them in stock.Anybody know the UK retail of these?I just want to improve an already amazing pair of headphones!

I second the Zu Cable Mobius replacement cable. Significant improvement over the stock cable.
