Update an old style Nat 01

Posted by: davidf on 16 January 2001

Has anybody sent an old style 01 tuner back to Naim to have it updated to the new style. I have been having some trouble with my 01 in that it often loses the stereo signal (yes I checked out my roof antennae). So I spoke to Naim yesterday and they recommended updating the 01 to new style and said that it would sound better. They also said that it would be good to do now as certain parts for the 01 may no longer be available in the near future. I am likely to do the update as I use my tuner alot. I was curious if anyone else did this and whether it was worthwhile. regards, david.

I've also got an old style NAT01 which I guess must be over 10 years old. I've occasionally thought that it's prob worth recapping it. As it's the only old style bit of Naim that I've got I'd also be interested in updating it. Did Naim quote a price for the work?

phil, I think it is around 1500 US dollars but thats not definite. I am told it will be like a new 01. I had my power supply recapped about 4 years ago. david.

At current FX rates that's more than the £700 I paid for my 01 six or so years ago. Think I'll just get out a can of black paint!

Phil,

I sent my elderly 01 back to Naim for a recap & head reset ( I think that's what it was! ). Cost was £180.00 which I thought was a wee bit pricey until I heard it!

All the usual stuff blacker blacks, quieter, voices more 'in the room' etc., etc.

Still looks the same, but big sonic/musical improvement.

phil, I am told by NANA that a re-do to the 01 would essentially replace the PS with a "much better" supply and also the advantages of better readout on the tuner itself- I can`t even see what the station setting is while 10 feet away from the tuner. The way I figure, if I can totally upgrade my tuner to new spec- I will be using it for another 10 or more years. I use my tuner alot and therefore for me it is a worthwhile investment. I will let you know more when Naim has a chance to evaluate my 01. happy listening, david.
