Something Else Great that Comes Out of Salisbury:

Hop Back Brewery's 'Summer Lightning' bottle-conditioned ale. Delicious, and our local shop does four bottles for a fiver. Check it out.

Cheers,

Tim

Strictly speaking it now comes from Downton(pedant!), though it did originate at the very fine Wyndham Arms. I believe they still brew there, small experimental batches.

I have had the pleasure of drinking both the draught (in excellent condition) and bottled versions this week-end.

4 bottles for £5 is a bargain, I hope you cleared the shelves - I know I would.

Downton always considers it self part of salisbury Seagull, or the new forest depends how you speak really!

Gary,

I'll bow to your local knowledge (I seem to remember that you came from the area). I've only ever been there (Downton that is) when I've visited the brewery so my memory is somewhat blurred... Can't imagine why.

Four Summer Lightning for £5 seems now to be a permanent fixture at Threshers so should be available to most people nationwide.

They do a variety of other bottled ales at the same price although most of them are at best unremarkable -- the lovely Tanglefoot (a good excuse to visit Devon) and Old Speckled Hen are the other picks from their selection IMHO.
