Rack or roll- Another boring rack question

Posted by: rod ayling on 05 May 2004

Hi,
I will shortly be purchasing a Naim fraim to be used alongside an additional existing Hutter rack, to house my 12 items of mostly Naim equipment. ( Unfortunately, I don't have the room nor finances to house 2 Fraims).

The equipment I have is as follows:-

CDS3,XPS2,252,SUPERCAP,300,300 PS = 6 BOXES

AV2, DENON DVD, 145, 200 = 4 BOXES

HEADLINE,HI-CAP = 2 BOXES

2 channel hi-fi obviously takes priority over the AV equipment and I am pondering whether it is better to make the most of the Fraim itself + site all of the 6 items for the 2 channel set up on the Fraim or make the most of the isolation of the brain/brawn items and place the power supplies for the brain items on the 'lesser' Hutter rack and site items like the AV2/DVD player on the Fraim. I appreciate that both the AV2 and DVD will benefit from the qualities of the Fraim.

Which is in your valuable opinions, the better rack arrangement for all round sonic benefit ? Please see two possible options below

OPTION 1

Hutter Fraim

AV2 CDS3
DVD 252
HEADLINE 300
200 XPS2
145 SUPERCAP
HICAP 300 PS

OR

OPTION 2

Hutter Fraim

XPS2 CDS3
SUPERCAP 252
300PS 300
145 AV2
200 DENON DVD
HICAP HEADLINE ( Headline is used quite alot)

Also, for a matter of interest, how often would you recommend disconnecting/reconnecting up the system to perform the Din/Burndy self cleaning exercise, once or twice a year ?

Many thanks for your help,

Rod

Just tell yourself that schizophrenia is a bad thing (and quite hard to spell to, I've just noticed!).

Paul,

Thanks for the replies, I knew replying to myself would work ! So I take it you mean swapping the position of the 300 and DVD on option 2, Fraim rack ?

Thanks alot,

Rod

I can't answer that, Paul is my other personality!

However this is what I did which does'nt compare with all the boxes you have but more or less fills up your Fraim and sounds pretty bloody good to me (when it's my night to listen)
