VPN through XP Firewall ?

Posted by: Minky on 13 October 2004

I've just come home to find that the PC's in my office have installed SP2. Not quite on their own but I won't bore you with the details.

I have a bunch of XP VPN connections permanently open to customer's systems. These no longer work with the XP firewall enabled, so I have to disable it and then the incessant nagging about not being protected starts up.

I don't want to install Zone Alarm etc. My router only does basic NAT, but together with XP firewall this has managed to keep me clean.

I don't know much about how XP VPN actually works. Does it operate on a static TCP or UDP port (or ports) or is it more complicated than that ?

Cliff,

Sounds nasty, but the patch for this must be included in my update as it was released in September. Also, I'm not trying to access any loopback addresses.

Good thought though ..
