DVD-A

According to DVD Reviews website, and RIAA survey released today show that DVD-A sales doubled in 2003 and outsold SACD by 5 times.

Yes, but the survey, apparently, only accounts for single layer SACDs, which are residual at this time, as each and every new release in the last year or so has been hybrid. Hybrids count as CDs...

Statistics, statistics and damned lies.

I think the fact that DVD-A tends to require a screen to play easily and SACD doesn't may end up being significant, as is Bob Dylan's preference for SACD.

Having various disc of both (well 10+ of each) I am still undecided. Both formats are very good. Not being able to rip DVD-A easily to my ipod is frustrating though, but the extra features are nice when you are in the mood - videos, lyrics, background info etc.
Alot of the DVD-A disc's do not need a screen to play, unless you want to view all the extras, they play just like cd/sacd with out a screen (bar a few early ones).
As for actual quality they are both very good, but as always it depends on the recording. So far nothing sounds awful in surround, but I have taken this into consideration when buying disc's - particularly buying artist that would benefit from it or live recordings.
I can imagine something like Oasis or Bob Marley (2 disc I have steered clear of) would not benefit from a surround mix. But artists such as Bjork, Pink Floyd and Moloko really do.
For me the formats are living happily side by side.
