Stuck - Nait5 volume control.....

Posted by: Tim Collins on 12 November 2000

Thought I would share this with you all...

Recently received my nice new shiny Nait5 and thought that the "volume down" on the remote didn't work. Now spoken to the dealer and it now transpires that the volume control on the NAIT5 is often pushed in due to the tight packaging used. Thus, the volume control needs to be pulled slightly to get the control working....Mmmmmmm

Personally, I am not sure if I am happy with this, and whether this fix(?) may actually degrade the sound quality.

Any comments/suggestions?

Have you guys at NAIM heard about this?

Reagrds,

Tim

Tim,

I can't understand how it happens. I guess the mechanical structure of the volume knob can't allow the knob with the axis to move backward or forward - but I must admit that I didn't believe that a fuse can be directional ....

I think you must find quickly the reasone and if there is no logical explanation by Naim not by your dealer - ask for a new amp.

Let us know what happens with your amp.

Sorry Tim, that is correct we have had some arrive with the volume knob pushed too far along shaft. This can be rectified by just pulling the knob back a tad. We have now modded the internal packing. No damage should be done.

Tim,

After reading Paul Stephenson reply, I'm sure you will enjoy your amp.
I had a Nait3 for 6 years and I enjoyed it very much. I'd listened to the Nait5 and it is a great amp - no doubt it is a better amp than the Nait3 .

Yes,

So far I am very happy with the sound, and am now suffering from that evil malaise - late night listening syndrome!

My wife is expecting me to tire of it soon....
