He's just a bit of a twit. He was unaware of the full horrors of the Nazi regime and thought the armband looked cool (which, if one can remove the negative connotations, it does).
Had he known the truth about the Nazis he would not have worn it, even if he himself was anti-semitic, because he would have known that he would get too much flak.
More worrying is an increasing incidence of anti-semitism in our society and in Europe generally which, in my opinion, has come from an uncritical acceptance of the propaganda that Israel is to blame for all of the world's problems. It is this agenda that has led to young people no longer receiving education about the Holocaust and thus to the ignorance of Prince Harry.

Clarence House were said to have apologised for "the poor costume" (as opposed to 'poor choice of...') This implies they have several more Nazi uniforms in better nick...
He does look a bit of a bozo, you have to admit.

Obviously his parents couldn't afford to give him a proper education...

He obviously just doesn't understand. Maybe he should be made to sit through the whole current Auschwitz series on TV, reflect on that for a bit, and then make a public statement of his thoughts afterwards.
Remember that he has a very sheltered life, and a very strange one at that, and with all that inbreeding is probably a bit ga-ga too. I'm sure he didn't mean to cause offense.

Plonker comes to mind. I suspect Rasher is right - he hadn't intended to be offensive but simply did not think.

A local fancy dress shop proprietor was interviwed on the local radio this morning and his shop is filled with thousands of fancy dress uniforms.
He said that hardly anyone over 35 asks for a Nazi uniform but it is fairly popular amongst the under 35's who sometime mention the hello hello programme as the reason for using it.
Possibly it is an age thing and it pleases me at the ripe old age of 56 to say that some of you are getting old in your outlook.

Golly Steve, at last we agree about something! Wonders never cease!!
Oh but there's that bloody "O" word again. It's hardly "offensive" is it? He's a bit of a twit, as Steve says, but the world's still turning. Go the pub and have a pint.

What do you expect with his gene pool ?
I think it could offend many 10s of millions of people.

He's clearly not displayed much common sense but walk into any fancy dress shop and you'll find costumes for nazis, RAF, Osama Bin Laden etc. He's just a young guy wanting to have a bit of fun and I suspect he just wanted to wear it as a piss take. To hear the news you'd think he was doing it as a form of political allegance to the Nazi party!
What saddens me most is the sensationalist media coverage of it - has the world really come to this that we need the news channels to be occupied solidly with discussion about such banal trivialities for the next 2 days??
With all the other far bigger problems in the world I find this kind of sensationalism far more irritating. The other day they spent days debating whether Brown and Blair are getting on well - who cares? When I was at BA it was well known that King and Marshall the CEO and Chairman weren't best buddies but they still managed to engineer what of the great corporate turnarounds of the century. The real issue is whether they are effectively tackling bigger issues.
Why don't the media start reporting real news for a change? Incidentally I'm if anything anti-royal and would like to see the monarchy scaled down greatly.
How many of us have done things at 20 which were stupid?

The anti-semitic attack by a Labour Minister on Michael Howard should be headline news, a resigning matter, cause of vomiting in his general direction. Unfortunately it couldn't be turned into a picture.

But where were Harry's advisors at the time? (I presume he has them). What if this didn't get into the press now, but a photo emerged say in a year or two with Harry wearing a swastika armband - with no explaination as to why. Imagine that. What the hell were they thinking of?

I assume that you're referring to Mike O'Brien's extraordinary "What will Michael Howard do for British Muslims?" comment.
I must say that it seems difficult to put anything other than an anti-semitic gloss on this one.

I think it's sad that you can walk into a fancy dress shop and hire anything that even faintly resembles a Nazi uniform. But I guess my sense of humour isn't sophisticated enough. Good.

Anyone who has seen the film The Remains of the Day will understand how much sympathy the English upper-classes had for the Nazi party - only two generations ago. Prince Harry isn't just another young toff out on a Saturday night - he's nth in line to the throne and a direct descendant of the Kaiser.
Posted on: 13 January 2005 by BigH47
Well said Chris and HTK.
He could have left the armband off I think even "upper class twit of the year" types would have known the uniform for what it was.

Re previous reference to his gene pool, I still think he looks more like James Hewitt than Charles Wales.

Your proposition seem to be following a worrying trend of typically islamophobic populist rhetoric that seeks to link the:
(i) support of any muslim group or arab state
(ii) criticism of the Israeli state
as anti-semetic.
The real worry is that islamophobia is at an all time high at the moment and the legitimate grievienes of the muslim population in this country such as daily discrimation on the street and at work are not being heard. Your proposition that Fox made an anti-semetic remark was based on ignorance and in itself illuminating of your own processes of thought.
Firstly, you should consider finding out what a 'semite'is. Then ask why Fox would be making a comment against Arabs. Palestinians are a semetic people.
Secondly, consider asking your self, why questioning Howard's Policy on Palestine and Muslims would be against jews (which is what you mean when you mistakenly use the term 'Semite'). You link support for Muslims, Palestine and Arabs with being anti -jewish.
This is not an attack on you, please do not consider it as one. But, your views are consistent with islamophobic and populist conceptions.
Mr. Mushroom
What on earth are you talking about????? Good grief!!!!!!
I should lay off those mushrooms if I were you!

He is either a pityful ignoramus of dubious parentage, a genocidal nazi or a total moron.
There is nothing of his character or actions to make me think that the monarchy of this country is anything but overly wealthy but lacking in fundamental intelligence.
The end result of over-sterile inbreeding perchance ?
I'd smack him in the mouth if I got the chance - he needs a good kicking.
Signature - surely it's just a Naim ?

Does anyone really care when push comes to shove?
Walk into any fancy dress shop and pick something off the shelves and you're going to cause offence to someone.
It seems a lot of fuss and media time over what was a bit of poor judgement or advice rather than anything "deep and sinister" etc..
The kid made a mistake, who here can say they've never done that??

I'm disapointed he wasted taxpayers money to rent the uniform when I suspect someone could have found one belonging to an ancestor in the loft.

...
Firstly, I categorically do not link the support of any Muslim Group or Arab State, or criticism of Israel with anti-semitism (except where such groups have themselves got expressedly anti-Jewish philosophies).
Secondly, I'm not Islamophobic, although I am concerned about the growth of Islamic Fundamentalism.
Thirdly, although you're correct when you say that 'Semitic' peoples include both the Arabs and the Jews, the term 'anti-semite' has been used exclusively to mean prejudice against or hatred of Jews. The term itself was was coined by a German writer called Wilhelm Marr and used in a book published by him in 1879. Marr coined the phrase 'anti-semite' purely to give some respectability to 'Judenhass' or 'Jew hatred'.
Finally, what on earth are you talking about? I was referring to remarks made by the Labour Minister, Mike O'Brien, in an article he wrote for 'Muslim Weekly'. Despite his attempts to deny it, the remarks have been widely considered to be anti-semitic (Michael Howard being, in case you didn't know, Jewish).
Should you decide to respond to this post, please end your response with some indication of your real name (your first name will do). I refuse to enter into serious discussion with someone who calls himself 'Mr. Mushroom'.

Rasher,
I think you're being too forgiving here. Either that or ultra-sarcastic or forgot the smiley.
He's an over privileged twat living an extremely luxurious lifestyle at our expense. What was he thinking about, particlarly so close to the Auschwitz commemoration? Probably very little if he's a typical royal.
