Cat Napping

Posted by: Fisbey on 05 July 2004

Probably not avery ethical question, but has anyone here any experience of cat napping?

There is cat near a friends house, that is kept in a cardboard box on the doorstep, with a bowl of grotty food next to it, The cat is lovely and despite the 'owners' saying its their grans cat it seems fairly obvious they don't want the cat in the house.

I am so tempted to give the cat a better home....

I think the RSPCA would welcome your call, and this would be a better way to proceed.

If the cat is free to roam then I think that the cat is happy, my observation of cats is that they are continually carrying out a series of evalations - eg

Is this OK - If yes stay there

Is there a more preferable place (better food, warmth, friendly human interaction, ie no divorce type arguments, screaming kids) then the cat moves to it

A friend spoke to them and they said it was their grans cat - but I think maybe if I ask them - they may let me have the cat - it's sad as its fur was matted (which I 'unmatted' yesterday) and this to me shows the cats not being looked after very well....
I'll pluck up courage and ask them...

We've adopted all three of our cats, the latest being a little blind cat that just appeared in our garden. She is too timid to come into the house, so we've constructed a shelter for her out of a garden cloche and a cushion. She spends her days on our patio, and evenings in the shelter. It's very sad to see her bumping into everything, but she seems happy enough.

One of our cats (both adopted) has gone blind over the last year or so. I’m amazed at how good her mental map of the house and garden is. She still bumps into things but knows exactly where she is and avoids all hazards remarkably well.
However, if you have blind cat and want to keep it, get it chipped. Ours got spooked by something one evening (probably the evil Persian from across the road) and wandered off. She was found a few days later ½ a mile from home and taken to a cat rescue, who we think were about to have her put down when the vet checked for a chip.
