Greg Brown

Posted by: Norman Clature on 25 September 2004

A wise and insightful woman at my local CD store has just introduced me to the music of Greg Brown. The album is Covenant and it is both musically and lyrically marvellous and all done with great subtlety.

At the same time she then passed on his daughters self titled album Pieta Brown. Same story as dad - just great.

Anyone got any leads as to where the best places are to delve in to his extensive back catalogue ?

re"Greg, I love "Slant-six Engine" and "Poets Game".

Saw him a couple months ago with Todd Snider, under the stars at the Oregon Zoo, pretty cool.

Thanks Jeff I shall check those albums out forthwith.

I have to say that after a day of repeated listenings of both the abovementioned albums Pieta Browns album has become the favoured one of the two. At this early stage it feels like something a little special and really grows on you. That said I still think the Greg Brown album is superb.

Cheers

I have several of his discs, including Covenant and Poet Game. My all-time fave, by far, is One Night: Live 1982.
