Exact Audio Copy

Tom,

As Marc has posted, Exact Audio Copy *is* the best CD ripper, however it doesnt encode so you end up with a lot of very large .wav files.

If you wish to encode from Exact Audio copy, then the best codec for encoding to MP3's is LAME.

If you wish a good but all in one solution, then CDex
is probably what you want.

Duh, just re-read your title.

DVD audio.

DVD audio from films, or DVD-Audio?

DOH! Me too...

Yes, EAC won't do a lot for DVD audio. The best place to look for information is the doom9 website and forums. If it's doable, someone there will know how!

I'm looking for a quick way to get the soundtrack from a normal DVD. At the moment I do it simply by playing it on my DVD player and recording it on the PC through my Audigy soundcard. I then use Soundforge to edit the WAV, and then burn it to CD. Although this produces quite staggeringly good results it's time consuming and there are longer cable runs involved than I'd like. I came across a piece of software called "DVD Audio Ripper" which does exactly what I want but it's not freeware (it only costs 29 bucks so I'll probably just buy that) but I can't help feeling there's bound to be a piece of freeware out there that would do the job. I could have sworn somebody recommended one on here a week or two back but I can't find it. Maybe it was on another board.

Go to http://www.dvddecrypter.com and download it.

Point it at the DVD, under mode choose IFO then enable "stream processing". You should now be able to select the individual audio and video tracks on the DVD. Select your audio track and hit the go button which will give you a whopping great *.AC3 file containing the 5.1 soundtrack.

You then need to transcode this into something you can use. Azid should help

I tried everything suggested here and couldn't get any of it to do exactly what I wanted. DVDdecrypter looked like it had the functionality but I just couldn't find it. Probably an unticked box somewhere. Anyway I ended up paying the 20 quid for DVD audio ripper and it's a splendid little piece of software that does exactly what I want with a minimum of fuss. Thoroughly recommended.
