Is there a free WAV to mp3 converter?

Why not just RIP your CD's to MP3 format in the first place?
This can be done even in the free Windows Media Player.
Also, I thought that most MP3 players came with software too......
Failing all of that, you might be able to get a free but limited (slowed features etc) programme such as Music Match Jukebox - which is a gem :-)
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

Download the lame encoder binaries and, assuming you run Windows, Razorlame.
They're free and about as good as it gets in terms of encoders.
