Yassir Arafat

Just heard on the news that Yassir Arafat is braindead, something the palestinian authorities deny. What will happen now with the israeli/palestinian "conflict"? Can we hope for peaceful solutions or will anarchy spread even more?

Interesting to note that Fritz has now re-appeared.
Just exactly were his shelf-stacking duties ????????
00-Fritz (shaken, but not stirred)

He was 75. It's not uncommon that people dies of old age. In fact, I don't know what my mother actually died from (at the age of 81).

Well, here we go again.
The french say it was not poison; that was ruled out at the beginning, but can not identify the illness.
The militants say it was poison and Israel will feel their wrath. Also the new administration has been painted as Israeli stooges and is on the same shit-list.
So much for hopes of a renewed peace process.
Somebody please stop this ride, I want off.
regards,
michael

Now that Arafat, Clinton & Rabin no longer hold sway upon the Middle East stage is it not time for Sharon to also leave?
I think this move would allow a new generation a far better chance of solving things once free from the bitterness, machamiso and pride that have accumulated over the past years and poisoned most meetings and agreements.

Much as I don't like Sharon, prefering the pink-tinged Israeli politicians, at least he has a better chance of convincing the Israeli right when push comes to shove. I hope so anyway.

Sorry Michael, we can't get off. The ride just goes on and on and on ...
Still, here's something that might cheer you up ...
My take is that I'd be happy to see an extreme Palestinian leader, as long as he can unite most of the Palestinians behind him and is basically a realist.
Because let's face it, a peace deal is going to cost Europe and the USA several billion dollars (and would probably be worth every penny).
Now, if a few hundred million dollars are 'cyphoned off' into the bank accounts of the peace-maker (and his family) is anyone going to be all that upset? I certainly wouldn't be.
Call me deeply cynical but there are few extremists whose ideals are so strong that they wouldn't sell them out for big dollars by negotiating and compromising, when the alternative is to continue fighting a war that cannot be won over issues that will never be conceded.
Might as well look on the bright side.

Yes, a slightly pink one would be nice and prehaps one that would step into the future unencumbered with baggage from the past would also gather good wishes from acros most if not all of the world.

Gentlemen, I believe we have a successor.
Israel releases senior Hamas leader
Just a hunch but remember, you heard it here first - usual terms and provisos apply.
