West Wing - adverts?

Posted by: Martin Payne on 20 November 2004

I watched the West Wing today (recorded) and noticed that the "advert" breaks didn't have any adverts in them, just 30 second trailers for forthcoming programmes?

Very strange. I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.

I wondered if it was somehow related to the recent US elections?

Any thoughts?

cheers, Martin

The advertisers do not value the type of people that watch West Wing

also I suspect that that they think that most of the viewing population will be recording it and skipping the breaks hence no valid audience

so why do C4 broadcast - perhaps it is to avoid annoying the people that do seriously watch the WW and C4 wants them to be friendly to C4 and to watch other programs on C4.

C4 is also a public service channel

Derek,

re advertisers - that would indeed seem to be the implication.

I find that a bit bizarre. WW seems to me to be aimed at middle class, reasonably affluent people.

I guess it's just that the advertisers aren't prepared to pay 7:30PM Friday prices for a slot within that show. Another few weeks of that and it'll be banished to 11PM on a Monday!

cheers, Martin

You were lucky Martin!

On first sight of this thread, I thought it was referring to the MINI car advertising links either side of the wonderfully hilarious 'Green Wing' TV series.

Nice car (I had a Cooper) but virtually every form of advertising I have seen for the car has been complete and utter shite.

I found the Green Wing 'MINI HA HA' links to be painful in the extreme.

They'd be right in my case.

The ultra short breaks resulted in me having to use the rewind function as I overshot the start of the program several times! Most disconcerting.

Steve.
