It seems to me that the European Project can be a unifying cause of Peace, and though it is easy to despise it, such developments as this arrest are very much to be welcomed, and it seems to entirely because of the welcome the EU will eventually offer Serbia, that such an event has taken place.
I have gradually come to the conclusion that the EU not only has proven, but will continue to prove to be one of the real forces for good in Europe and the World.

I hope so George, I hope so. The question will be if this influence and stability can be sustained as the EU expands, I question the readiness level of some of the countries on the short list - including Serbia.

George,
On this occasion, it appears as if the EU has worked for right, but I'm afraid I have such a jaundiced view of the EU that I'm rather inclined to think that the dirtiest politics takes place in Brussels, and my view of this is because it is the most remote politics from us.
I usually feel that the EU's primary concern is taking care of its MEPs first in as sumptuous circumstances as possible, followed by anything else that makes them more sumptuously accounted for.
