New Porcupine Tree Al*** - The Incident
Posted by: DenisA on 13 June 2009
Porcupine Tree are happy to announce the forthcoming release of their tenth studio album "The Incident". The record is set to be released via Roadrunner Records worldwide on 21st September, as a double CD.
The centre-piece is the title track, which takes up the whole of the first disc. The 55-minute work is described as “a slightly surreal song cycle about beginnings and endings and the sense that ‘after this, things will never be the same again’.”
The self-produced album is completed by four standalone compositions that developed out of band writing sessions last December - Flicker, Bonnie The Cat, Black Dahlia, and Remember Me Lover feature on a separate EP length disc to stress their independence from the song cycle.
Video footage of the band in the studio working on The Incident, as well as audio previews, will be available online soon. The band will tour extensively to promote the album from mid September onwards.

Fine pal you are! I might have had a fighting chance of resisting if I hadn't clicked on that. <mutters darkly>

According to Tonefloat's Twitter:
"been busy with preparations for the vinyl edition of porcupine tree's the incident on tonefloat. should be ready in tie with the cd release."
Steven Wilson (4/8/2009):
"There's gonna be a double vinyl which will have a very different packaging concept again: three seperate vinyl sleeves all housed in a transparent slipcase with the title of the text embossed in white on the transparent sleeve."

The Vinyl release details are here
"tonefloat is pleased and honoured to house the vinyl edition. the incident is captured on three sides, with the additional tracks on side four. mastered from the original 24-bit audio files, the album will be out in two versions: a regular 180 grams edition in a gatefold sleeve, and a special edition that is limited to 2000 copies worldwide. this incorporates the two discs in separate picture sleeves, a superb 48-page 12inch book, and all of that house in a custom printed pvc slipcase."

Thanks Denis - I have ordered the limited edition vinyl.

Mrs S was looking at this thread last night and asked me whether I was going for the £60 special edition. I pointed out that though the presentation would be first rate (a la 4x10" vinyl Insurgentes release) it would still be a CD (and a DVD/A which I would not be able to play on anything meaningful).
I've ordered the cheap as chips CD version (for the car and ipod) and the nice ltd edition vinyl, because I just have to.
I'm only missing one PT album on vinyl (of those available on that medium), ironically it was the first one that I bought - In Absentia.

PT reveal their first video from their highly anticipated new album THE INCIDENT (in stores September 14) exclusively with MUZU in the UK and Ireland TODAY(17th August) at 4pm.
The video is directed by Lasse Hoile, the man responsible for (amongst other things) the videos for Fear Of A Blank Planet and Way Out Of Here, the stunning visuals at Porcupine Tree shows and the hardback book of photographs to accompany The Incident that comes as part of the Limited Deluxe Edition.
The track for the video is Time Flies- which is not essentially a track in itself, but a central segment of the title track of the album, which is 55 minutes in length.
Head to THIS LOCATION on TODAY at 4pm to check out the video in it’s entirety.
There will also be a competition to celebrate the launch of the album.

Ah yes, I am confused on all these various editions. Are they different? Think I get some coffee table book with mine.

Amazed this has not sold out yet. Did they make a lot more copies than a normal limited release? It's a bit more pricey than the Steve solo album as well. If it was 40 quid I would give it a go but 60 is too much when I am going to be buying the regular CD release as well to take with me in the motor. My special release this time is the vinyl box.

Typical, just as I am about to pack up my LP12 to be fettled by Derek at Infidelity...
As an aside, last night we were half watching a documentary about a bloke living on his own for a while in the woods in Canada. He seemed to be fascinated by a porcupine that was up a tree though made no reference to Steven Wilson's beat combo...
It wasn't a happy ending either, for the porcupine at least, because he shot it for his lunch.
