Uniti an NAS
Posted by: gmischol on 20 September 2009
I'm a Naim Newbie. Purchased a Uniti and am really satisfied. I just got a problem with my NAS.
Here's the setup: im my homeoffice I have a MacPro with Airport, Airport Express with Cable Modem on it (for Internet Access). In the living room, where my Uniti is, I purchased an Airport Extreme, which I integrated in my Network. I would like to stream music from my NAS (Netgear Ready NAS Duo) over the Airport Extreme to the Uniti but also have access to the NAS from my MacPro over Airport to upload newly purchased music. But somehow this setup is not working. I'm unable to see the NAS from my MacPro.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi Gaudenz
I have a similar setup to yours. Naimuniti in lounge. Upstairs is iMac with airport extreme and netgear readynas duo. My cable modem is plugged into the airport extreme and so is the readynas. iMac then connects wirelessly. This all works fine and streams to uniti.
Would suggest you try the following.
1) remove the airport express, can't see why you need this.
2) Have you installed the widget onto the macpro that came on the CD ? if not you will need to otherwise you will not be able to configure / see the NAS.
Once the widget is installed you will see status of drive... used space, fan speed etc. There is a button called setup ( I think... sorry I'm at work so can't check at the moment) go in to this and you will be asked to log in... password etc is in documentation, you can then set up the NAS, not to much to do... turn on upnp which is off by default, job done. Once you have exited you should see the drive listed in a finder window, it does not appear on the desktop. Click on it and it will open up a finder window with 2 folders in it, from memory 'Backup and media' inside media you will find a music folder. Copy your FLAC files or whatever you have (not apple lossless) got into this folder, goto uniti and login to network and you should now be able to see all your music.
Happy streaming

Hi Graham
thanks for your advice. I finally managed it to work as I wanted. But I had done as you described but it didn't work the first time. I had to reset the AEBS and the ReadyNAS and do the setup again. Then it worked. I've read on the Netgear-forum that many people had problems with Macs. They promise to adress these problems with the next firmware update.
So I'm really happy now with my Uniti streaming music from the NAS. The only thing I miss is the possibility to control it from my iPhone. But my dealer said, there is something coming out soon by Naim. Can't wait to have it on my iPhone.
Anyway, thanks again for your help
now happy streaming
