Suffolk/Norfolk Massive Naim forum social event.

Posted by: Michael on 15 July 2008

Hi Gang,

I am hosting a Suffolk/Norfolk "Massive" social get together at my place in Lowestoft on Saturday 26th July. Kicking off around 3 p.m. with a fish and chip supper around 6 p.m.

Norman (Rodborough) and Ian from UHES will be coming.

Although mainly a social occasion you will have the opportunity of hearing the all 500/NBL system.

Hope to see as many who can make it then.

Dear Michael,

I can see them now.

I am wiping a tear from my eye as i type.

Also was sent photo's of the airshow by friends and just watched bits of the airshow via you tube.

It is absolutely hissing it down now and looks like it is in for the night.

Snowed down the road from me yesterday photo was in the papers today.

Coldest winter for years and more to come.

I thought it was just like Neighbours and Home and Away here. Especially as Home And Away is filmed half an hour from here at Palm Beach.

Still kettle on ,check, heater on , check, hot water bottle filling , check.

Damn i still need a belly warmer.

I do not have a current email for you. J.N. has my email address.

30c hmmmmm green eyed monster is rearing its ugly head.......

Went to the NAIM dealer and importer here on saturday for a nose around.

Enjoy the sun while it lasts.

regards David

Hi Michael

It was really great meeting up with you guys, temperatures were perfect for me and it rounded off a fabulous week on the Suffolk Coast. The fish & chip supper was to the usual very high Lowestoft standards.

It was great seeing JN again and meeting Julie was just so encouraging that there is a much younger generation equally interested in serious music reproduction and I could have talked with Simon for hours, what a brilliant bloke.

Our usual busman’s holiday if less so this time, the chap in Norwich is going for the ADAM’s we had to prise them away from him though to take them on to Epsom on the way home.

Your system was sounding absolutely fabulous I have a very soft spot for the NBL and combined with all that 500 series electronics it really shows what a truly great loudspeaker system they are; the temptation to go active with them though could be financially ruiness though.

I am already looking forward to next year, I suspect the Lowestoft Air Festival will be held again around the same time and it is always good for me to be able to see so many of my oldest friends back in my home town.

Thanks once again for yours & Pam’s wonderful hospitality and next year it would be great to meet even more of the Norfolk & Suffolk massive.

Warmest regards

Hi Munch

You have a wicked sense of humour I have to say it really made me chuckle.

Pity I missed you this time, perhaps next year

Thank you for your kind comments, Norman... yes a most enjoyable day for all.

Yes, Julie is very passionate about her music and really appreciates good replay of it. Many of her friends have been impressed by what is possible at home when hearing our system.

So.....roll on next year.... !!!!

Glad to hear it all went so well. Sorry to have missed it, but we had a great fortnight in Northern France, and the car didn't misbehave at all... well, almost... Big Grin

Glad you had a good holiday James, and welcome back! Bet it was good to get back to the Hi-Fi though!

(Guessing you didn't take the Bentley with the Naim stereo to France...) Winker

Yes indeed, Tony! Guess what was the first thing to be switched on when we arrived home yesterday afternoon, even before getting the bags out of the car or putting the kettle on...???!! Big Grin

Also one of the emails awaiting me was from Derek of Kudos who gave me some tips about tightning my nuts, no torque spanner required. And boy, does everything benefit from a Saturday afternoon nut tightning session. Everything sounds very much better - even allowing for the fact me ears have been a abroad for a fortnight.

Good wishes,
James

Yes James, I advised my customers and Derek of this a while ago, as I found that all but the allen bolt directly below the tweeter on the bass unit would benefit from tightening. A significant improvement in sound for 1's, 10's, 2's and 20's.

Strange he uses two different sizes of allen heads, but who cares when they sound so good.

Kind regards,

Peter

Thanks for the extra tip Peter, I'll slightly ease off those top bolts again!

Have a good hol.

Sorry James, I didn't explain clearly..... All but the top one seemed to be loose, however if you tighten them all up equally including the top one if it needs it, that's fine. Don't slacken them off again though.

Kind regards,

Peter

Right, I'll get the Allen key out again! Smile

I still say 'have a good holiday'!

PS I think the 3 larger sized Allen bolts for the bass drivers are to permit the excellent magnetic system for attaching the holiday dust covers (which some folks might call grilles).
