Rega Planet 2000 versus Exposure 2010 cdp

Posted by: Nuno Baptista on 16 July 2002

Hello:
As you know I´m looking for a cdp to go with my Naim Nait 5!Today I went to my dealer and a Exposure sistem was playing!I´ve put some records and as long I was listening Exposure cdp we were talking! After a while my dealer told me that Exposure source was superior to a Rega Planet 2000 source! My dealer didn´t have the Planet and so I couldn´t compare both!Exposure has a analogic sound that I really like, but I really don´t know if is superior to a Planet!Anyone who heard both sources can make a judge?
BTW,next month I will hear a CD 5 ,of corse it costs 1125£,it´s another championship!

If you were talking while the Exposure was playing, why would you buy it?

Any hifi equipment worth buying will make you stop talking and listen.

Nuno,

If you compromise on the source you'll compromise your NAIT.

Nuno,

Most here, and most dealers, well say that the CD5 is an ideal match for the Nait. It ought to be. There may be some alternatives, but all the alternatives that you've mentioned in prior postings are at a lower echelon, perhaps with the exception of the Genki. I noticed that Grahams hifi suggests a system using the meridian 507 as source. There have to be CD players that will front a Nait 5 adequately, but none that will do it for significantly less money. I'm still living with my Micromega Stage 6, which is a decent player, I'm expecting to get an upgrade in september. The minimum for me will be a CD5, but we'll see.

Nuno

Having listened to the CD5 and Planet 2000 at length, with and without the Nait5, I am convinced that the CD5 is where it's at - for my ears, anyway.

I've watched your numerous fragmented threads, and the good natured responses from the forum goers in general, most of which have recommeded you get your ears around a CD5, and many others adding that you're at risk of growing a rather disturbing mullet in entertaining the Planet or Exposure options, good as those players are in their price brackets.

So to read that you will actually listen to a CD5 tomorrow has me on the edge of my seat! It's Friday down here already (lunchtime as I type this) - and the suspense is killing me. Nuno - did you enjoy the CD5? Did you love the CD5? Did you try connecting an FC2 to the CD5 and Nait5? Are you now convinced that you should buy one? Are you convinced it's outstanding value?

I'm just dying to know. smile

PS - much as we all enjoythem here, would you mind awfully continuing with this thread as a place to post your listening findings, rather than scatter another thread on the forum? confused

Ok guys:I´m in Lisbon two days for a short hollidays!I will publish my notes as I promise!
Yesterday I went to distinct dealers hear a Rega Jupiter and a Naim cd 5 .I will start for cd 5 as I knew the Júpiter, but as you know I was curious about hear a all Naim sistem!and everithing I read about Name sinergies were true!I hear a Naim cd 5/Flatcap 2 and Nait 5!what a sound!wooahuuu! Some hours before I heart a Chord pre/power Jupiter and Naim sistem blow up all my expectatives!this is true hi-fi!And what did I think of cd 5?Well,first I heart before some cd players 1000£ so I expect a very refined and powerfull sound ,and as a cd comes playing this expectatives were rigth!I was happy
wink second i start to listen my records! What a powerfull sound, lots of detail and refinement !it was as I was hearing the band!what can I say more?
then the dealer put a own record!focus and a large bandwithd were the atributes,I can hear a bass that I´d never heart in another sistem! The large bandwithd of CD 5 makes possible this lots of bass, that lacks in Júpiter that seems to me a more agressive an d digital sound!BUT...the sound seems very analogic ,that I really like it,but with the dealer´s record a bit forward! It´s here that I´ve got some doubts and today I´m going back to hear the pace, rithm and timing of the sistem!I was a bit hurry yesterday and let´s see if I can live with Naim sound !off course it´s a wonderfull cd player,no doubt but I really don´t know yet if Naim sound it´s my couple of tea,ok?

Hello :
Well, today I heard Naim cd 5 with more time!Yesterday I was very impressed but I didn´t know describe if I really love or hate the sound!Today it was clearer that CD 5 has pace, rithm and timing! That´s what I want finding out!adding this qualities a very refined sound that was familiar to me as I´ve got the amplifier!Yes,if I´ve got the money I will buy this cd tomorrow!has sinergies with the amplifier, too! It doesn´t matter if Júpiter can compete with CD 5,just cd 5 impressives me so much today that after two hours hearing it I´ve got the desire to buy it!Now I don´t care if my dealer in Coimbra wants to dem another source,CD 5 is a winner!
----------------------------------
Thanks to all my friends in Forun Naim that give me advices to help me to see the path way and understand what really is music!A special thanks to Steven Toy and Rico!---------------------------------------------
