Multiple libraries in Foobar
Posted by: Pev on 16 November 2010
I see that the Foobar help desk topic has been closed, hence this new thread. I'm more than happy with Foobar and have ripped much of my music collection. The part I have yet to rip is my huge collection of Grateful Dead music. Much as I love them, including this in my main library would lead to complaints if I use shuffle play when I'm not listening alone (no accounting for taste!) also scrolling through all artists or all albums would take ages. An ideal solution would be to have all my Grateful Dead music in a separate library - I've looked on Foobar FAQ but couldn't find a solution. Some people with similar issues have resorted to separate music players. Has anyone on here (Patrick?) found a way to manage this in Foobar or at least achieve the same result without separate libraries?

Sorry I know nothing of Foobar, but it's great to here I'm not the only dude who likes the Grateful Dead.
There are lots of free Grateful Dead downloads
Rocking the Cradle is one my favourites of these.

Try using a filter on whichever library view you use. Or making your library view partition out Grateful Dead at the very top level.

Very much un-deadhead-like deadhead here as well.... Great band.
I have a few immense sets of the big boys (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart) that I dont want in my main library for similar reasons (too many tracks take over). Simply Create a Playlist with all of the Dead in there. Listen as needed.
Or listen from folder level (right click, enqueue/play in Foobar).
I also keep them in their own discrete folders so they are ignored by the "Media Library"

Thanks guys - good to know I'm not the only one on here... my favourite sources for legal and free Dead downloads and streaming are
www.wolfgangsvault.com and
www.archive.com - both have lots of Dead shows and a whole lot of other good stuff.
I will try your suggestions - listen from folder level sounds promising as I usually go with a whole show at a time.

Hi Pev,
I've answered your question through the use of autoplaylists. It's in this thread I've started on the subject:
Autoplaylists thread I hope that solves your problem.
