How do you turn the display off the nDAC?
Posted by: Consciousmess on 24 November 2010
Hi all,
I was relieved to see I could change the nDAC input via the nVi controller, which could also control the 282, but I can't turn the display off the nDAC and I quite like my system just showing the lit up "Naim" sign!
Is this possible?
Many thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,
If you look in the distributed audio section there is a thread "Naim Dac Frimware" where this is discussed and there is a link to firmware that dims the display. Thread was started 22 October 2010.

Gerry

Hi Jon
The firmware is accessible from the links shown below, which I have copied from the original thread.

"I have tested the firmware update with some 24-Bit/96kHz wave files. I put these files in the root directory of the USB stick and used the USB socket on the front of the DAC.
One of my USB sticks previously worked only on an intermittent basis with the DAC and I had never managed to get my other USB stick to work at all. Both USB sticks worked with the 24-Bit/96kHz files following the installation of the Release 65 Firmware.
If you want to try this for yourself, I have uploaded the update to Rapidshare and Hotfile. (I hope it's OK to do this. Mods please delete and accept my apology if it is not acceptable)
I have uploaded in RAR and zip file formats. Each compressed file (You only need to download one of them) contains the release notes from Naim Audio, the two files required to perform the firmware update (These are in a compressed file format) and a text file containing the installation instructions that were included in Steven Hopkins' email containing the required update files. Please follow these instructions carefully.

Careful you don't "brick" it. Do you really need to dim the display that badly?

All them links are dead anyway.
It would be a shame to be able to brick anything with a firmware update nower days.

Yes, it would be a shame. I have no idea if it is a risk or not. I'm just talking out of my arse as usual.

No your not in terms of this is often thrown about to maintain a bit of control, but hardware/software today should be at a stage where by a person can even roll back firmware and quite often this is the case.
As I say the links are all dead so its of no concern.
