How many forum members does it takes to change a light bulb

Posted by: Colin Lorenson on 11 April 2007

Sounds familiar? I'll bet we could put names to the various types off the Naim Forum Smile

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
1 to move it to the Lighting section
2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

Depends on the light bulb, doesn't it? Maybe you could be more specific.

PLUS

2 who are thinking of downgrading to darkness.
1 who says that the light will be so much brighter in a £2500 support.
3 who say you need a special cable at £500/metre
1 who complains that lightbulbs used to last much longer under the Tories.

3 to suggest that if you'd bought a Leica one in the first place the bulb would never have blown.

1 to moderate the changeover (eventually).

And Adam to pull the thread, because this is about fiddling with the electrics and you shouldn't talk about it.

Are we talking about a dedicated supply for this lightbulb, or light bulb....

...because it's going to make a difference....

...oh, and would that be 6mm or 10mm cable, and what rating of breaker are you using - this will depend on the wattage, obviously....

...is it switched, or dimmed - which I wouldn't recommend as this will degrade the supply to the bulb dramatically...

These things matter you know!!

And Garyi to tell us that if you'd bought an iBulb in the first place you wouldn't have had this trouble.
Posted on: 12 April 2007 by Stubby
.. and another 10 to suggest that moving the lightbulb to a better location will improve the clarity of the light produced by the bulb (reduce the number of shadows?) and reduce RF interference from the TV..
Posted on: 12 April 2007 by Nigel Cavendish
...or more to suggest moving to a house where all the bulbs work already..

8 to claim that in the end you should audition, preferably at home, and let your eyes decide.

2 to start a new thread to ask why their bulb thread has disappeared.

1 to claim there can only be one brightest bulb in the room.
Posted on: 12 April 2007 by Deane F
1 to post that they got a dedicated spur for their lamp

3 to post about the burn-in period for dedicated lamp spurs.

and 1 more to change to and personally install a dedicated mains thereby nearly electrocuting himself and his entire family in the process like a complete idiot.

And one to say that black bulbs are better than olive bulbs, without realising that the black bulbs, being black, emit no light...

1. To suggest that for authentic listening surely it would be better to use candles or lamps for most classical music, so replacing the bulb would hardly matter for some members of this Forum!

"15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct"

1 twat to say it is actually a luminaire

5 to say that term is only applicable in the UK

1 to say the dictionary definition is a glass bulb containing a metal filament and a low-pressure gas which glows when you pass electricity through it

437 to say you should be using a low energy equivalent to prevent global warming

3 to ask how much energy you waste by leaving your hi-fi equipment switched on
etc

Not to mention 25 members posting pictires of their bulbs, with a special photo in a lovely Italian Accent Big Grin

And of course that the light bulb should be on it's own spur...
Posted on: 12 April 2007 by u5227470736789439
And a ddiscussion of whether a chandelier is best fitted with a single spur or one per bulb/luminaire/lamp? I do not have an opinion o this. And are the best light switches made by Cabtree! IMHO, yes!!!

Plus 1 member to tell us that all of his light bulbs are the most expensive money can buy and that he and Mrs. Mick can afford it because of his hard work and discipline and that people who cant afford the most expensive are losers who are a blight on this great country of ours etc etc. Roll Eyes
