Led Zepplin -- influences -- free CD

Posted by: JamH on 04 April 2008

UNCUT magazine [UK] comes with a CD of tracks that influenced Led Zepplin ... it's called 'When the Levee Breaks' ...

John Lee Hooker
Blind Willie Johnson
Elvis Presley
Bukka White
Memphis Minnie
Robert Johnson
etc ...

It's not super -- most [all ??] of the tracks are mono -- but for a fan it's useful. It concentrates on the blues influence on Led Zep.

I have an earlier CD [I cannot remember the magazine] called 'The Roots of Led Zepplin' which was a lot better and had a lot more folk music / progressive music. [But some of the tracks overlap with this one].

Sorry Stuart, you have lost me there. I was just helping James to recall where the other freebie CD he metioned came from.

Enjoying your Zep fest?

Hmm, Blind Willie Johnson, Bukka White, Robert Johnson, all recorded in the thirties and you say the sound quality's not that great. What do you expect? Still I would rather listen to them than Led Zep

Chris Kelly .. thanks for the info. I mananged to find the earlier CD and it was in fact MOJO.

jcs_smith .. agree that the recordings are quite old and would not expect high sound quality. Just wanted to warn anyone who might not be aware of the fact.

Just read my posting. Didn't mean it to sound so sniffy.
Anyway thanks for the heads up - I'm going to try and get a copy. It looks good.
