HiFace & Foobar with Linux?

Posted by: Holty on 14 July 2010

I've just purchased a HiFace and Acer Aspire Revo.

Having as usual not completely read the small print it seems the great little Atom PC I have purchased actually ships with Linpus Linux, (which I have less then zero experience with)!

Before I go through the rigmarole of sticking Windows 7 on this has anyone used a HiFace with Linux? is it easy? a ball-ache? better?

Also would i need to run an emaulator such as Wine (which I have heard is notoriously awful)to run foobar with?

A bit technical i know, but any advice would be appreciated!

Shame to downgrade to Windows - I don't think M2Tech has released a Linux driver yet though, but at least you can delete Windows and upgrade again if they ever do.

There are no drivers for the HiFace under Linux.

While (I think) Foobar will run under WINE on Linux, you'd be better off with a Linux playback application or run XBMC or MPD.

Not sure if it's possible - but can you return the Acer - maybe cheaper to look elsewhere than buying a Windows 7 license. Or look at alternatives to the HiFace.

From the m2tech website:

"Presently, Windows XP, Vista and 7 Windows drivers are available. Soon available also Mac and Linux drivers."

I guess you'll need to wait a bit then Frown

That is bit out of date - there are Mac drivers available, but Marco hasn't had time to write any Linux drivers. They are only a small company, but a very good one.

Hiface has problem working with some AMD-based motherboard which your Revo is based on. You need to get confirmation with M2Tech.
