You might get sniped at now of course for hiding behind a nom de plume.

As an engineer I always used the motto-"if all else fails ,read the instructions".

Not recommended in your previous employment.

I changed my username because I thought it sounded pretentious.

Know what you mean about the "read the instructions" bit. SWMBO has never read an instruction book in all the time I've known her. Her standard approach when she gets a new bit of equipment, be it kitchen, garden, entertainment etc, is to get me to read the manual (if I need to to) and then tell her how to use it. The most annoying thing is that when something goes wrong with one of her things, I'm expected to know how to fix it without referring to the manual! Much shouting from her usually follows if I can't cure it in about 5 seconds flat. Roll Eyes

A standing joke before I retired was that whenever the department got a new bit of gear, was that it was always given to me to use first, as I could always find the design fault within 15 minutes. This usually resulted in comments from reps such as "but why would you want to do that?". Perhaps my mind just works in a different way from the design engineers/manual writers? I did, on occasion, offer to rewrite parts of manuals in plain English. Winker
