Video/DVD splicing software

We use a lot of video at work for training and assessment purposes and have always used VHS. However the Deanery will now accept DVD's so need to move into this millenium! We have a good quality digital video camera but the supplied software is clunky and unhelpful (MGI video wave) and it seems to take us ages to select the areas we want to copy and write.

Can anyone recommend a good tool for viewing editing and writing DVD's from the camera?

I've looked a the reviews on Amazon for Nero 6/7 and Roxio CRcreator and they seem very mixed!

Bruce,

I purchase Pinnacle Studio to do capture from 8mm to DVD. Total piece of crap. Very flakeey. Never did get it to work on any of the three machines I tried. The help desk solution was to roll XP back to SP1 and try that!

Downloaded trail version of Sony Vegas 6. Capture worked straight out of the box. Very impressive and robust. (Had to use Pinnacle for the burning as the trial version of Vegas didn't allow that).

Would recommend the Sony Vegas. Think it retails for around £60.

Willy.
