I liked his vocals on Rainbow Rising. Also impressed with him being able to work with Ritchie Blackmore for that long.

I always thought Black Sabbath's "Heaven and Hell" with RJD on vocals was a cracking LP.
Sad.

Steve

It's one of my favourite LPs. RJD will be sadly missed.

Yes, the old headbanger in me sheds a quiet, manly tear. Happy memories of rocking along to Rainbow Rising as a teen.

A great singer who will de sadly missed. I experienced Rainbow at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester in the 70's, great concert.

Sad news.

A true star. At 67 his live performances still had the freshness and enthusiasm of a twenty year old. He didn’t lose his voice either.

A great loss.

Rainbow Rising is quite possibly THE best "metal" album ever recorded (most of it done in one take apparently) ....Dio's soaring voice is an integral part of Rising ..if ever an album begged to be played REALLY loud Rising is it!

...And anyone else remember the single "Love Is All" sung by Ronnie? ..from Roger Glover's animated musical The Butterfly Ball? .....a massive hit that never was for some reason.....

I remember that. A blast from the past, for sure. I recall it being quite a hit in Australia, at least.

I have never heard it. I am a huge Black Sabbath fan but I'm an even bigger Ozzy Osbourne fan.

Can one be a "huge Black Sabbath fan" , but never have listened to the awesome output that they produced with RJD on vocals??? Even some of the most rabid Ozzy fans know of Dio's vocal contributions, if only to knock his time with the group.

Go take a listen to 'Heaven...' and also 'Mob...' Some of the best albums IMO that Sabbath released to the marketplace.

The newly remastered 'Mob...' now also has the bonus of the best live album released from the Dio lineup (better than 'Live Evil') so what better time to test the water?
