CDS3 Issues

Posted by: greeny on 13 November 2003

I had a CDS3 on home demo last Friday night, I won't comment on the sound quality but there were a couple of usage issues that I had.

I am a CDX owner so I am not familiar with the top loading mech of CDI or CDS2, but I found disk loading on the CDS3 to be quite a slow process. The lid descent is slow, Do people just generally push the lid down manually?

Disk access time is very slow (vs CDX) once the lid is down we are talking 5+ seconds before the CD is ready to play. (in CDX once door is shut I can play within 1 second). Also track access is slow. There is also significant mechanical noise when accessing the CD or track.

Ok these are pretty minor complaints, but they did annoy me. So for those with a CDS3 do you find any of this a problem/annoyance. Would especially like to hear from anyone who has gone from CDX to CDS3.

After extensive testing, Hamerite doesn't work. But i've found a new paint developped for military jets. It looks very promising soundwise (on par with adding a second XPS2), but is quite heavy and the lid closes too fast.

What about drawing the curtains during listening or, using the player blindfolded?

Will this have the same effect?

Last news
after all the mods on the CDS3, i found it improves my CD5. My CD5 now sounds better than my CDS3. And it's a free upgrade for the CD5.

I find that the best way of dealing with the stray light that can have a disastrous effect on the CDS3's performance is to have my whole system in a belly of a sperm whale. Their tonsils make a comfy listening sofa and you get to travel the world. The food is a bit repetitive - there's only so much you can do with plankton, but otherwise life on the high seas in a live migratory sperm whale (with hi-fi) is pretty good. Tip : don't turn the volume up too loud because it screws up the bastard's magnetic navigation system and you'll end up stranded on a beach. I'm on my seventh SW this year.

Well, now it seems that UPS has rescheduled my delivery for Monday...Why? I have no idea.
It is an overnight delivery that should be here this morning.
Got to look into it. Hopefully the internet is on the blink and its still coming....6:42am-Not suppose to be here until and no later than 10:30..
This will be interesting...

Paul

He was round 2 weeks ago when I had the home dem of the CDS3, at which point he/we spent quite a while doing a few tweeks etc.

The plan is that I pick up the player and install it, and then the dealer checks it out in a week or two to check everything is OK once it's warmed up and settled a bit, We did go through the instalation process with the home dem.

Anyway, any other solution means me waiting longer Big Grin

It seems that UPS has computer issues...
UPS is closed today and the system is telling everyone that there is no delivery today.
Actually, the only thing they are doing is delivering air...
So, it does look like it will be here...

Still, we will see..

Paul:
Thanks for the reminder!!
I was under the impression that Naim has asked their customers to disregard the "how to" open box on the internet site??
Due to the changing magnetic poles, we were told to do the opposite...

I have found my copper staple pullers..
Don't want to have different metals rubbing and causing oxidation....

HEE HEE.........

Should arrive in an hour or so, chief.....
